What are Butterfly Valves More?

Butterfly Valves More is a series of valves that use a butterfly valve disc for fluid switching, featuring rapid opening and closing with just a quarter turn (90°). Compared to traditional ball valves and gate valves, butterfly valves are more compact, lighter, and less expensive, while maintaining low pressure drop and good sealing performance in large-diameter pipelines. Common designs in this series include straight-through, eccentric, and double eccentric types, meeting the demanding requirements of high-pressure, high-temperature, and corrosive media.

Key Advantages

1. Simple Structure and Compact Size: Rotating at -90°, the installation space is only about 84% of that of a ball valve of the same diameter.

2. Low Torque and Easy Operation: Utilizing an optimized bearing and valve disc design, the torque required for manual or electric actuation is significantly lower than that of similar valves.

3. Reliable Sealing: Metal-to-metal or metal-to-soft seal combinations maintain a tight seal under high temperature and pressure, suitable for industries such as chemical, petroleum, and seawater desalination.

What are the application prospects of butterfly valves in the water treatment industry?

Due to their low flow resistance, rapid opening and closing, and convenient maintenance, butterfly valves have become an indispensable fluid control component in water treatment systems. The following are the current application status and future trends:

1. Wide Range of Application Scenarios

Raw Water Regulation: At the inlet of water treatment plants, butterfly valves regulate the raw water flow to ensure that treatment capacity matches demand.

Sedimentation Tanks and Filtration Units: Controlling the inflow and outflow rates improves sedimentation and filtration efficiency.

Wastewater Recirculation and Reclaimed Water Reuse: Soft-seal butterfly valves achieve long-term reliable operation in wastewater treatment and seawater desalination systems thanks to corrosion-resistant materials (stainless steel, EPDM).

2. Prospects Driven by Technological Advancements

Soft Seals and High-Performance Materials: Utilizing materials such as stainless steel, bronze, and epoxy coatings enhances resistance to salt and alkali, as well as acids and alkalis, meeting the requirements of highly corrosive environments such as seawater desalination.

Intelligent and Automated Systems: Electric or pneumatic actuators, combined with SCADA systems, enable remote monitoring and precise flow regulation, reducing energy consumption and improving system reliability.

Energy Saving and Emission Reduction: The low pressure drop characteristic of butterfly valves can significantly reduce pumping power consumption, aligning with national policies promoting industrial energy conservation and green manufacturing.

3. Market Potential

With accelerated urbanization and industrialization, global investment in water treatment facilities continues to grow. The global butterfly valve market size exceeded US$11.9 billion in 2024-2025 and is projected to maintain a CAGR of 10%-15% over the next five years.

As the world's largest consumer of water treatment equipment, China's government policy support for wastewater treatment and seawater desalination provides a broad growth platform for butterfly valve companies.
